Rebels shooting at BVC plane
october, 2009 | worldportalnews |

Al-Qaeda related group Al-Shabaab opened fire at Obbia airport on October 29 at a plane belonging to private African airline BVC owned by French businessman Barthe Cortes Some scenes of the attack were recorded by the rebels who sent them to media and placed in the Internet. The attack occurred soon after the plane was unloaded. Probably, the rebels fired seven mortar shots, one of which hit near the plane, as the recording confirms. No information is available on how the plane managed to leave the airport under mortar fire. According to an anonymous informer, Barthe Cortes himself was the pilot on that day. Asked whether BVC would suspend flights to Somalia due to the incident, BVC 's press spokesman said officially that there were no flight suspension plans.
