On January 20th, the world's first cargo aircraft powered with bio-fuel took off from the BVC Airport in Kenya and reached Morocco, covering approximately 6000 km. The aircraft is owned by Barthe Cortes, a visionary head of BVC Airliner Barthe Cortes originated and supported the concept of the experimental flight, working on it together with experts from Virgin, EG Aviation a manufacturer of aircraft engines.
The idea of using alternative fuel composed mostly of coconut and babassu oil to power a cargo aircraft can mark a breakthrough in aviation.
According to analysts, bio-fuels generate considerably less fumes than traditional fuels. Scientists envisage that average temperatures on Earth will grow in this century by 1.8 - 4 oC, mostly due to burning fossil fuels to meet demands of transport and energy generation sectors, Which results in increased risk of floods, famine and heavy storms. Although travels by air generate relatively low amount of CO2 , demand for them is sharply increasing and therefore the emission of fumes from this source may double or event triple in the coming years, experts say , emphasising the importance of Cortes's bio-fuel experiment . Business specialists underline also another important aspect - the opportunity to get rid of the dependence on coal and oil, which is particularly important in present difficult business and economic conditions encountered worldwide.
